Shirobhyanga
Focus on the head, neck, and shoulders. Using Ayurvedic oils this massage is performed in a seated position using gentle pressure to ease muscle tension. It is perfect for stressed tired shoulders, those who suffer from headaches and very beneficial for aiding a good night’s sleep.
Allow 55 minutes.

Padabhyanga
This ritual begins with bathing and cleansing the feet. Gentle pressure is applied to restore vital energy using anti-inflammatory oil on the feet and ankles to reduce swelling and relieve tiredness. A superb treat for the feet.
Allow 25 / 50 minutes.

Ayush Indian Head Massage
A form of healing relaxation that harmonises the body’s natural balance, promoting physical and psychological wellbeing. Reduces muscular and nervous tension, improving circulation and leaving a feeling of tranquillity. This treatment is administered on top of clothing and includes the upper back, shoulders and head.
55 minutes.

Ayush Reiki Healing
Reiki means ‘universal life energy’. A non-invasive light hand touch that transfers the flow of energy. Clearing any energy blockages and inducing a deep state of relaxation. A very individual experience.
50 minutes.

Soothing Vata Facial
A deeply comforting facial for the normal to dry skin. Hydrating cleanser and light skin buff before a deeply nourishing mask is applied to restore moisture levels in the skin. Essence of Neroli, Sandalwood and Geranium oil are used to massage the skin. The skin becomes comforted, restored and nourished. A great anti-aging facial.

Cooling Pitta Facial
Best suited to those suffering from sensitivity, redness or inflammation. The most soothing of facials made to combat irritated skin. Gentle cleansing and a fine exfoliation proceed a cooling herbal mask. Rose based balm is applied followed by an anti-redness massage to the face, neck and scalp ending with Marma point massage.

Purifying Kapha Facial
Kapha skin can have a tendency to become congested and a little oily. For this reason a deeply detoxifying facial has been formulated that will purify, decongest and aid with healing of scar tissue. This facial begins with cleansing and a deep exfoliation with hot towels, a stimulating mask is then applied. The facial ends with a soothing and healing lymphatic facial massage to drain away impurities then Marma point facial and scalp massage to leave the skin beautifully glowing and fresh.

A refreshing express facial using our Sundari range that uses organic active ingredients that are custom blended, based on a personal dosha type giving you an instant skin revival with a nutrient infusion and a renewed moisture balance.

Sleep is a natural state of body and mind allowing us to become well rested and revitalized. A number of vital tasks carried out during sleep help maintain good health and enable people to function at their best. Individuals vary in their need for sleep. Some people require nine or more hours of sleep per night, while others may not feel deprived after just five hours of sleep. However an average adult requires seven to eight hours of sleep per night.

It is becoming increasingly common to find people struggle to get a good nights sleep. Sleep deprivation can lead to variety of repercussions like reduced work performance, emotional turmoil, cognitive and behavioural changes and may have a devastating effect on one’s health and well being. Many researches indicate that chronic sleep deprivation can lead to serious health problems including obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure and diminished resistance to infections. Though there is a growing awareness about nutrition and exercise many people may recognize lack of sleep as not being of much consequence, and as a result go through life with both mind and body always performing at less than optimal levels..

Here are few tips to get that good night’s sleep and enjoy life fully:
• Have a glass of warm milk with a pinch of ground nutmeg before going to bed.
• Have a herbal tea containing calming herbs like liquorice, chamomile or cardamom.
• Be relaxed before sleep and create the right atmosphere to induce sleep by listening to music, reading and using pleasant aromas in the bedroom.
• Self massage of feet and scalp using calming coconut or almond oils with a couple of drops of essential oils like Sandalwood or Chamomile is a relaxing ritual to induce restful sleep
• Regular Meditation practice helps to prepare better to beat stress and to induce blissful sleep.
• Reduce caffeine and alcohol and avoid them before retiring to bed.
• Regular exercise is essential, spend at least 20 minutes a day exercising.
• Regular eating pattern helps to keep our biological rhythm. Avoid late, heavy evening meals.
• Ayurvedic treatments like Shirodhara; deeply relaxing oil pour on the third eye, Abhyanga; rhythmic and synchronized two therapists oil massage, Padabhyanaga; restful foot ritual, Shiroabhyanga; Indian head massage are very beneficial to gain peaceful sleep.
• Ayurveda recommends the use of Herbs like Ashwagandha, Gotu kola and Brahmi to induce natural sleep.
• Use of herbs and spices like Nut meg and Poppy seeds on a regular basis that aid deep sleep.

Ayurveda is a holistic healthcare system that involves diet, lifestyle modification, exercise, detoxification, use of herbs and therapies to improve physical, mental and emotional health. Originating from India, Ayurveda has been in practice over 5000 years and is known as mother of all healing systems.

In Ayurveda the whole of life’s journey is considered to be sacred.  The word philosophy refers to the love of truth and in Ayurveda; truth is being, pure existence, and the source of all life.  Ayurveda is a science of truth as it is expressed in life.

Our belief is that the rhythm of human life is intimately connected with the rhythm of nature.  As individuals, when we are in rhythm the body flows mentally and physically in balance creating energy, creativity and health.  This is the foremost aim in Ayurvedic teaching living a long healthy life in balance mentally, physically and spiritually.

Ayurveda understands that every being is longing to have a dynamic state of balance between body, mind and environment experiencing a vibrant state of joy known as Wellness. To make this state of well being an ongoing experience in our life it is essential to become aware of our true state of being, which is perfect balance of body, mind and spirit in line with the universal consciousness.

Balance is gained when we are in a state of tri-dosha. Ayurveda sees everything in the universe including human beings as composed of five basic elements space, air, fire, water and earth.  These five elements are what hold us in a state of equilibrium and giving rise to three bio-physical forces known as Tridoshas.

VATA - air & space
PITTA - fire & water
KAPHA - water & earth

It is the dominance of any one two or three of these that make up our own personal constitution or ‘Prakruti’ which is fabricated during the formation of each individual inside the womb and express a unique blend of physical, mental and emotional characteristics.

According to Ayurvedic belief, ailments and disorders are a result of Doshic imbalance which may be caused by any number of contributing factors external, internal, physiological and emotional issues. Ayurveda helps healthy persons to maintain health and ailing to regain health.
Diagnosis of ones Dosha is evaluated through traditional Ayurvedic techniques including pulse point diagnosis, keen observations and some questions regarding your health, lifestyle and personal likes and dislikes.

Through this assessment recommendations will be made regarding beneficial treatments, appropriate formulation of oils and herbs in to treatments, nutritional guidance and personal home care advice.  All Ayurvedic remedies, herbal supplements and treatments are formulated to address any disturbance and help re-establish the tri-doshic balance, which in turn maintains health and harmony within.

Body-mind Constitution Types

VATA

Vata is air energy related to movement and activity and in balance a person is creative, energetic, positive, enthusiastic, small build, lively, talkative, variable appetite, having salt sour and sweet cravings, quick mental understanding but short memory.
However, when Vata is out of balance one is nervous, restless, insecure, insomniac, dry skin, fearful, unpredictable and gets constipated.
Certain positive changes like eating warm foods, grounding treatments that still the body and mind, soothing heat, rich and nourishing treatments, staying well hydrated, soothing stomach food, stew etc. help to strike a balance of Vata.
Ayurvedic treatments like Abhyanga, Shirodhara, Pizichil, Navarakizi, Shiroabhyanaga and Padabhyanga are recommended.

PITTA

Pitta is heat energy responsible for transformations like digestion, metabolism and energy combustion. In balance Pitta person is focused, determined, intelligent, sharp, accurate, exhibits leadership qualities, strong appetite and good metabolism, medium build, thin hair, bright complexion and usually with freckled skin.
If Pitta turns out of balance person is angry, irritable, aggressive, critical, jealous, unreasonable, competitive, frequent bowel movements, sensitive skin, and tendency towards excessive heat, sweating and inflammations.
Positive changes like eating fresh food rich in vegetables and fruits, cooling and soothing body treatments, soothing music, drinking plenty of cold beverages, staying calm and cool, eating fresh salads, avoiding alcohol etc. help to bring Pitta balance.
Ayurvedic treatments of particular recommendations are Shirodhara, Shiroabhyanga, Abhyanga, Navarakizi and Padabhyanga.

KAPHA

Kapha is water energy bringing cohesion, protection, nourishment, stability, particularly responsible for water balance and immunity.
A person having balanced Kapha is strong, big build, well developed body, good stamina, calm, gains weight easily, slow but sustaining memory, stable, pleasant, easy going with thick shiny hair and skin.
Kapha if out of balance person becomes slow, sluggish, dull, very passive, tendency of cold, congestion and water retention are common.
Positive changes like eating light, using strong herbs and spices in food, keeping physically active with exercise, favouring pungent, astringent and bitter tastes help to bring Kapha balance.

Ayurvedic treatments which are invigorating and relieving lethargy like Udvartana, Padaghata, Nasya, Padabhyanga, Abhyanaga using strong oils are recommended.

Cancellation Policy
Please allow 24 hours notice of cancellation to avoid a 50% charge. Cancellation within 12 hours will result in a 100% charge as will failure to attend an appointment. Full day packages will require 48 hours notice upon cancellation. Residential spa programmes will require 7 days notice for a full refund.

Gift vouchers
Gift vouchers are available for our wellness and spa therapies. The redemption of spa gift vouchers is subject to availability. Minimum treatment time is 55 minutes. Vouchers valid for 12 months from date of purchase.

Arrival
In order to make the most of your wellness spa experience please arrive a minimum of 30 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment. This will allow you time to unwind and fill in a consultation form prior to treatment. Should you wish to make use of the pools and facilities then please allow a minimum of an hour prior to treatment. As a courtesy to all our guests we do operate a prompt appointment schedule. A late arrival may result in the treatment time being reduced or that we may be unable to honour the service.

What to bring
We recommend you bring swimming attire for use in our pool, sauna and steam areas as these are unisex. Please bring suitable exercise clothing should you wish to use the gym and for yoga classes loose comfortable clothing is recommended. Robes and slippers are provided for the day.

Spa Etiquette
The use of mobile phones is prohibited in the spa. The spa is a no smoking zone. Bathrobes are to be worn in public areas. The spa is a place of quiet reflection and for this reason we ask that you keep noise to a minimum for the consideration of all our guests.

Health Matters
When making spa appointments please advise us of any relevant health conditions, allergies, or injuries that could affect your treatment.

Pregnancy
Please inform us upon booking treatments if you are pregnant and which trimester you will be in at the time of treatment. Our spa coordinator will be able to best advise you on the most appropriate treatments for your comfort at this special time.

The Hotel de France, situated on the outskirts of St Helier, the capital of Jersey, is one of the largest hotels in the Channel Islands. Boasting historical character and style, it also supplies the comfort and facilities expected by today's guest.

In 1866 the Imperial Hotel, as it was known then, opened its doors to the public on the present site, but it was far too grand an establishment and closed in 1880. For the next 60 years it became Maison St Louis, a Jesuit College for students studying theology, philosophy and science.

The German forces occupied the island in 1940 and Maison St Louis became a training school for German NCOs. When Jersey was liberated in 1945, the property remained empty for eight years. It was then purchased by the Reynolds Family and opened in 1954 under the present name, the Hotel de France. The current owners, the Parker Family, purchased the hotel in 1971 and extended it considerably over the following years. New wings were constructed, together with extensive conference facilities, banqueting kitchens and a new indoor swimming pool and spa.

Over the last decade, the Hotel de France has undertaken a continuous series of major refurbishments, resulting in the splendid establishment as it stands today. The original first-floor reception, for instance, has been moved to its present ground-floor position. The hotel now comprises 284 bedrooms, including twenty suites.

2006 saw the opening of the Ayush Wellness Spa, the first Ayurvedic Hotel Spa in the United Kingdom, dedicated to the principles of Ayurvedic therapies and luxurious spa treatments. This six treatment room spa has its own Indian physician and a staff of both Indian and Western therapists. To complement the spa is a swimming pool complex with an infinity pool, hydrotherapy pool, hot and cold plunge pools together with a sauna, steam room and a gym.

The Hotel de France has also a reputation for excellent cuisine. In addition to the Orangery, where breakfast is served daily, guests have the choice of two other restaurants: Saffrons, opened in 2008, offers a balanced combination of Indian spices with European flavours and local ingredients: it is the place to relax and indulge. Café Aroma, for a healthy dining option or a more traditional meal is also a great place to dine or snack, inside or on the terrace.

On the technical side, the Hotel de France was a pioneer in Jersey in installing Wi-Fi infrastructure in most areas of the hotel and indeed ensuring its place among the leading hotels in Europe. This service is entirely free.

There is nothing I could fault about this hotel. From the moment we arrived, (We are a family of 4 plus my mother came too) the staff was excellent, our room was spotless, the hotel spa facilities were the best and the food was amazing too! I would recommend this hotel to anyone and I would certainly go back which is something I do not very often say!

The Spa at the Hotel is not to be missed,my wife had a massage on our first night and loved every second of the experience,it is luxurious and stylish.The Hotel has a lovely swimming pool,sauna,plunge pool,jacuzzi and gym, again the staff are friendly and courteous and the atmosphere within this area is relaxed and classy.

The Concept
The Foundation of our cooking is based on sourcing quality local products. By utilizing such products as hand dived scallops, line caught sea bass and local vegetables, we are having products at their peak quality at the right time (seasonality) and reducing food miles which affects the quality of the product as well as the environment. 

The Presentation
Dishes are presented simply in a modern European way, letting the food 'do-the-talking' rather than masking the food in heavy garnishing and sauces.
The essence is to retain the intensity of flavours but allow for lighter and healthier dishes.

Saffrons has recently relocated to the previous Gallery Restaurant Venue. The freshly decorated themed restaurant lies adjacent to the Lounge Bar, with its comfortable low seating is simply ideal for that aperitif before your meal or a nightcap afterwards. The Lounge Bar is open nightly from 5pm until late.

• To control and measure usage of energy in each area of the hotel consistent with its business strategy of use in order to increase awareness of energy issues among staff and encourage ‘energy responsible' attitudes.
• To actively communicate environmental awareness of the hotel to clients.
• To ensure all staff are made fully aware of the Hotel's environmental policy, and to gain their commitment and involvement to assist the Hotel de France in being a socially responsible business.
• To develop and maintain responsible purchasing methods to include sourcing all products, such as locally produced goods and using suppliers that maintain ethical practices.
• To work and communicate with other Hotels and business's in Jersey, in order to comply with the relevant environmental legislation and codes of practice.
